Being in the presence of Samantha Van Pelt makes you feel immediately “at home.” Not only is she kind and welcoming, but she’s knowledgeable and trustworthy, which is really what her entire purpose is about. When asked what Van Pelt would like for our readers and hopeful future customers to know, she responded with, “To seek truth. Find your own truth and don’t be deceived. You deserve to be deception free. That’s kind of my whole name and whole purpose.”
Truth Soap Co. is a husband and wife venture “with a vision to provide all-natural hand, hair and body soaps and lotion bars.” The serene, nicely decorated shop is situated in the One51 Main building at the Community Maritime Park in downtown Pensacola. The delightful aroma of various essential oils greets your senses upon entry. Van Pelt’s husband, Adam Van Pelt, handcrafts all soaps and lotion bars on-site with 100% natural ingredients that are listed clearly on each product label.
Van Pelt’s teenage daughter’s artwork made of wood, buttons, and stones, adorns the walls, presenting in a highly appealing and creative genius. Aside from the shop’s alluring appearance, it is difficult to not be intrigued while listening to Van Pelt speak about her products and the problem with various soaps and lotions currently on the market that are causing us more harm than good. As a former RN, she has done her research, even investigating the many toxins existing in the ingredient “fragrance” as an experiment in microbiology.
Van Pelt, who has been diagnosed with POTS and Narcolepsy after years of illness, created Truth Soap Co. with the intention of eliminating the hidden toxins that we are putting on our bodies. She describes Truth Soap as going beyond a regular bath and body shop by providing its customers with a healthier lifestyle and truly pure products.
Furthermore, the shop is economical and affordable for everyone, with large bars of soap priced at $10, and lotion bars priced at $12. Speaking of the lotion bars, Van
Pelt refers to those as the shop’s number one seller. She believes this is largely due to the many testimonials she has received regarding their healing properties, aiding in relief from eczema, psoriasis, and even Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS). She says of Truth Soap’s lotion bars, “You will never suffer with dry skin again.”
The shop also features Peppermint Eucalyptus African Black Soap Salt Bars with African Black Soap coming all the way from Ghanda, Africa; Charcoal Anise Peppermint Detox Soap, which we were able to see in production requiring 4 weeks to set before sale; Lemongrass Rosemary Face & Body Soap, which smells amazing; and Shampoo Bars, which people have claimed has assisted in hair re-growth. Van Pelt says the store plans to come out with a line of products specially designed for canine family members in the near future.
While the ecommerce store has maintained a presence online since May of 2015, the shop is still relatively new, just opening its doors on leap day of this year. Shoppers are welcome to stop in Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays as well from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Just know that if you decide to have a look at Truth Soap Co. you may not be leaving without a hug. “Most of my customers that come in here, we end up hugging before they leave.” Van Pelt adds, “I feel like I’ve made a new friend.”
